Alfonso Clive Thomas (born February 9, 1977, Cape Town, South Africa) is a South African cricketer who has represented his country in one Twenty20 International. He is a right arm fast-medium bowler and a big hitting lower-order batsman. He currently plays domestic cricket for Somerset County Cricket Club and one-day cricket for Dolphins.
On the 10th of October 2009, he played a very good lower-middle order innings to guide Somerset to a victory over Deccan Chargers, in their 1st match in the 2009 Champions League Twenty20, at Hyderabad, India. Somerset needed 14 off the last 2 overs and scored 9 off the penultimate over by RP Singh. Scott Styris was brought on by Deccan Chargers skipper, Adam Gilchrist to bowl the last over. Styris bowled James Hildreth off the first ball. The next one was a dot ball to Max Waller. However Waller ended up getting caught & bowled off the third ball. However this allowed Alfonso Thomas to get back on strike and he hit a 4 off the fourth ball. The fifth ball was again a dot ball, off which non-striker and eleventh man Charl Willoughby was almost run-out. Alfonso hit a 4 off the last ball to notch up a memorable victory for Somerset.
